Every JRLC student has the exciting opportunity to serve in several capacities throughout the ministry of JRA. In addition to contributing to the broader ministries at JRA, the students will select a leadership practicum. The leadership practicums are designed so that students experience the James River culture in a specific ministry offering as well as equip them with the fundamentals required to lead in that field. Each JRLC student will have 15-20 hours per week of life changing ministry experience at JRA.
The Pastoral Leadership practicum gives students a comprehensive view of care for others through a variety of practical opportunities. Students participating in this practicum will gain experience as they work alongside JRA pastors leading in areas of biblical discipleship, counseling, and benevolence ministry.
The Communications practicum combines learning opportunities for students in the areas of creative service as well as live event production. Students participating in this practicum will experience the impact that sight and sound has in a church setting. They will be trained in state-of-the-art media tools including design, lighting, sound, and video.
The Business practicum gives students a comprehensive view of the corporate structure of JRA. In this practicum, students will assist JRA leaders in day-to-day operations of the organization, including fields of accounting, marketing, sales, and interaction with the community clientele.
The Kids Ministry practicum gives students the opportunity to gain a greater understanding of the influence children have on the Body of Christ. Students participating in this practicum will work along side high capacity leaders and contribute to a dynamic program focused on reaching and discipling children from infancy through 5th grade.
The Worship and Creative Arts practicum gives students a greater understanding of the commitment to holiness in worship leadership. Students participating in this practicum will learn that effective worship must be focused on honoring the Lord through a systematic and disciplined organizational structure.
The Youth Ministries practicum gives students a greater understanding of empowering young people with the Gospel. Students participating in this practicum will work along side dynamic and creative leaders driven to reach and disciple middle and high school young people.
