Leadership Practicums

Q. How many hours of ministry experience will I receive each week?

A. Students can expect between 15 and 20 hours of ministry involvement per week. However, during major events these hours may increase.

Q. Do I get to choose what ministries I’ll be involved in?

A. Yes, Students have the opportunity to choose a leadership practicum that interests them. In addition, students will occasionally be involved in ministries outside of their leadership practicum. Please visit This Page for an updated list of practicums.

Q. Can I still have a job while attending JRLC?

A. Yes, However, students must prepare their schedules in advance knowing their attendance in church-related activities will take priority over employment.

Q. Do I have to attend James River Assembly while I'm enrolled in JRLC?

A. Yes, All students must attend all JRA services (except during Holiday Breaks) during their enrollment in JRLC.

Q. Does JRLC have professors or do my classes take place online?

Q. Do my classes take place at Evangel University?

A. No, All JRLC classes conveniently take place on the James River Campus.

Q. Can I transfer the credits?

A. Yes, however because you are a JRLC/EU student, you do not need to transfer if you choose to attend Evangel University.

Q. Do I need to retake the classes I’ve already taken at another college?

A. No, Any required course previously taken with a grade of C or better can be transferred in.

Q. Can I take JRLC classes part-time or online?

A. JRLC students must be enrolled as full-time students. We allow students to take online courses on a case by case basis with approval from the JRLC Director.

Q. What do I need to do to apply?

Q. Do I need to have a high school diploma to apply?

A. A high school diploma or GED is required.

Q. Is there an application deadline?

A. Yes. The application deadline is August 1, 2012. However, all applications received after June 15, 2012, will incur an additional $25 late fee.

Q. Are scholarships available?

A. Yes. The scholarship application deadline for the 2012-2013 school year is July 15, 2012. For more information on scholarships offered at JRLC click here.

Facilities and Housing

Q. I have a housing scholarship, do I still need to pay the housing deposit?

A. Yes, you are required to pay a $200 housing deposit to hold your scholarship and room. This scholarship is due on June 15th, 2012.

Q. Where do classes take place?

A. All classes and leadership experiences are conducted on the James River campus.

Q. Where will I live?

A. JRLC has 2 housing options for students: housing provided through JRLC, or housing secured on their own. For more information on housing options click here.

Q. Do I need to have a car?

A. It is not required of JRLC students to have a car. Classes, ministry opportunities, and a full grocery store are all within walking distance of the JRLC housing. However, we would recommend that students aquire a vechicle, if possible.

Q. Will I have a membership to The River Fitness Center?

A. Yes. Your membership will last throughout the duration of the Academic Year.
